2017 Show Rules

Entry Requirements

  • All quilt show entries must be constructed of three layers of fabric and contain some amount of quilting.  While quilting done for hire is permissible, commercially produced quilted items do not qualify.

  •  A quilted item that has not been entered in a previous Kaleidoscope of Quilts show is eligible for entry in the Kaleidoscope Quilts 2017 show.

  • No single quilt show entry may be entered in more than one category. (Please refer to the “Quilt Category” page to determine the appropriate category for each entry.)  Entrants may exhibit as many quilted items as desired on a “first come, first served” basis.  A separate entry form is required for each submission.

  • An identification label which includes the entrant’s name, address, telephone number, and the name of the quilt must be sewn onto the back of every quilt entered in the show.  Bags/Totes must have an identification label which includes the entrant’s name, address, and telephone number.  To label these items, you can either baste a muslin label or attach a piece of masking tape with your ID information to the inside, or back, of each piece. (Both could be easily removed after the show.)

  •  A 4 inch sleeve must be sewn to the back of each quilt.  If your quilt is more than 90 inches long, place the top edge of the sleeve at 90 inches from the bottom of the quilt.  Entries without sleeves will NOT be accepted.  (Please see the instructions below for making the quilt sleeve.)

  •  All quilt show entries must be clean, and free of smoke, pet hair, or odor.  Incomplete, damaged, or soiled items may not qualify for display or judging.

  • The GCQC reserves the right to reject any unqualified or misrepresented quilt show entry.  All decisions of the GCQC and the show judges are final.

  • Quilt show entries that do not meet these rules will not be judged or exhibited.  Entrants will be notified of disqualification as soon as possible.

  • All quilt show entries will be judged prior to the show.

  • The GCQC and/or the show judges reserve the right to change the category of quilt show entries when appropriate.

  • Quilt show entries may be offered for sale, but must remain on display until 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 22nd.  All transactions will be the responsibility of the individual owner.

  • All quilt show entries will be handled with the greatest care; however, the GCQC will not be responsible for loss or damage to your entry while it is out of your possession.  Note:  your quilt show entry may be covered by your personal homeowner’s insurance policy.

 

 

To facilitate ease of quilt drop-off, please put a label on the back of the quilt at the bottom right.  Put a piece of tape over your name, and fold the quilt with the label showing on top.

Entry Dates

Entry forms and fees must be submitted and received by July 10, 2017.  Instructions for registering your quilt show entry and links to the Quilt Entry Form and the Quilt & Workshop Registration Form will be found on the “Registration” page.

A $5.00 entry fee is required for each item submitted for entry in the quilt show and must be received by July 10, 2017.  Exception:  there are no fees for quilts entered in the “Display Quilts” category that includes the Invitational Challenge, Antique Quilt, and Children’s/Teen’s Quilt sub-categories.

Delivery & Pick Up

Drop off entries at the Sylvania Exhibition Center:

You will be given a quilt entry receipt by the GCQC upon delivery of the quilt show entry; this quilt entry receipt is required for pick up of your entry at the end of the quilt show. Note: no quilt show entries will be accepted at the drop off if the registration process was not previously completed by July 10th.


SHIPPING
Entries may be shipped via United Parcel Service (UPS) to Glass City Quilt Commission, c/o Marty Deer, 1628 Spruce Ct., Temperance, MI 48182. Entries must be received from July 10th through July 14th.  Entries must be shipped in a box that will be suitable for return shipment using the same box and packaging material. A prepaid UPS return label should be included in the box with your entry. We recommend that you purchase insurance for both the submission and return of your entry.
 

PICK UP
All items entered in the quilt show must remain on display until the close of the show. Entries must be picked up at the Exhibition Center at Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter between 5:00 and 5:30 PM on Saturday, July 22nd.  You must present the quilt entry receipt that you received at drop off as proof of ownership. No quilts will be returned via shipment unless prior arrangements have been made (please refer to the Quilt Entry Form and the Quilt & Workshop Registration Form).


Quilt Sleeve Instructions

Cut a strip of fabric 8.5” wide and equal in length to the width of your quilt.  Make a one inch hem on the two short ends of the fabric strip.  With wrong sides together, sew the long edges of the fabric strip together using a ¼” seam allowance.  Turn the sleeve right side out and press.  Slip stitch both the top and bottom edges of the sleeve to the top back of your quilt, leaving the ends open so that a rod may be inserted into the sleeve to hang the quilt for display.   For quilts longer than 90 inches, please make sure that the top edge of the sleeve is sewn 90 inches from the bottom of the quilt!
